Who Am I?

A Visual Storyteller

Let’s start with the easy part of that question. My name is Kyle Garay, I am 30 years old and I am a full time photographer. Now, like most people figuring out who you are can be a bit challenging but let me try and take a stab at it.

I was born and spent most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area. Photography was never really a passion of mine as a teenager, however I did always own some sort of camera. I really just enjoyed documenting fun moments in my life; never delving into the technical aspect of photography. It wasn’t until I moved to Oregon in 2019 that my love of photography really shined through. I didn’t know anyone in Portland, therefore I didn’t have anyone to go out and drink or party with. Instead I spent more time alone hiking and wandering the trails in the Columbia River George. It was there I began to really figure out how to actually use a camera. Whether it was finding the right aperture settings or getting the shutter speed just right, I was obsessed with photography! I wanted to learn everything there was learn about composition, lighting, and post processing. Every day after work I would spend my time in the field. Wandering the downtown streets of Portland with my camera looking for interesting perspectives and then going home and spend hours in the editing room figuring out my editing style.

At the end of 2020 I decided to take the leap and go full time with photography. I had quit my career of almost 10 years to purse my dream of making a living being a professional photographer. By no means was it an easy decision. I would stay up all night thinking what a stupid idea it was, but none the less I kept pushing.

I now work full time as a professional product/brand photographer. I work with a multitude of companies to help them showcase their products through the art of visual storytelling. Being able to do what I love and take that passion to help brands and clients it’s incredibly feeling.
